Colombo, Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka

colombo, sri lankaTraveler Magazine listed Sri Lanka as one of the 2011 “Tours of a Lifetime” – so if youʼre planning a trip or Colombo, the country’s largest and capital city with your kids, youʼve made the right decision! A fantastic range of accommodation, great cuisine with a variety of food to cater to any kind of palette, beautiful golden beaches only a short drive away and some good attractions to keep the kids busy while you shop or relax at one of Colomboʼs fabulous spas – all these make Colombo a great destination for your vacation with the kids.

Getting to Colombo:

Sri Lankan AirlinesSri Lanka’s only airport, Bandaranaike International is about an hour’s journey by taxi to Colombo. Major airlines like Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, and of course Sri Lankan Airlines fly into Colombo. You can get direct flights from many parts of Asia, as well as London and other parts of Europe. From the Americas, flying to Colombo will require a connection.

How Kid-Friendly is Colombo?

The country and city are peaceful after the end of a decade long civil war and signs if development are rapid. Sri Lankans love children, and if you are ever in need of help with a kid around, all you will need to do is wave a hand or shout. Someone (or in most cases a whole crowd) will gather tohelp you! There are good hotels all around the city and the island, most of which welcome kids (if you are traveling to a boutique hotel, though, be sure to check beforehand on their child policy as some exclusive places do not welcome kids under 12).

Momaboard’s Child-Friendliness Rating: High
