Delhi, India

Delhi, India

New Delhi is the capital of India and the seat of the country’s political power and heritage. The wide streets, expansive gardens contrast with the crowded markets and chaotic traffic to create an experience worth witnessing.

Getting to New Delhi:

Delhi is now on most major airline routes and the new Indira Gandhi International Terminal has been reopened in 2010 and matches all international standards and facilities. If you are within India you can fly to Delhi on a multitude of domestic airlines, which you will find provide better service and food than most American and European carriers. Try Jet Airways or Kingfisher Airlines. For a more authentically Indian experience you can approach Delhi by train as well. I would stay clear of driving as traffic is unpredictable and the roads are not completely paved throughout the country. You can find research your options on getting to Delhi on the internet.

We love going to Delhi in February or November, when the weather is at its best, and explore the outdoor markets and feast on Delhi chaat (street food). The lack of infrastructure may scare off some Westerners but it’s important to remember that children live and thrive in this capital city. You just need a little openness (and a car and chauffeur).
