Tokyo: New York Grill: All High, No Chair

Tokyo: New York Grill: All High, No Chair

tokyo4Located in the swanky Park Hyatt in Shinjuku, the New York Grill restaurant is best known for its appearance in Lost in Translation and for its spectacular view of Tokyo. However, given that brunch is USD 100/person, I was a bit disappointed that they were unable to provide me with a high chair. There were other babies around, but none looked very welcome, although the Japanese are way too polite to say anything directly. I would say, give this one a miss if you’re traveling with bubby. You could do dinner, but the food isn’t good enough to waste a precious baby-sitter night on and you can’t even see the view in the dark.

On a related, slightly disappointing note for foodlovers, Tokyo is considered the gourmet capital of the world, with more 3-star Michelin restaurants than Paris, but all these restaurants are extremely difficult to get into, and are not baby-friendly (in that children are not welcome). If this is on your must-do list for Tokyo, plan way ahead and organize a babysitter.
