Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Isla Mujeres, Mexico

isla8Welcome to Paradise. Sitting about 8 miles (13 km) Northeast of Cancun, Isla Mujeres (literallu: Island of the Women) is the opposite of all things commercial and touristy, embodying the best of authentic and hospitable Mexico. This island is so untouched that the main forms of transportation are mopeds and golf carts (and of course, a few buses here and there).

Getting to Isla Mujeres:

The closest airport is Cancun International Airport (CUN) which is well serviced from North, Central and South America as well as from the UK. From Cancun International Airport, your best best is to reserve a shuttle ahead of time to take you to Puerto Juarez to catch the ferry. If you’re already staying at one of the hotels in Cancun’s popular zona hotelera (hotel zone), take the city bus to the port, about 10 minutes north of the hotel zone. The Puerto Gran ferry (Ultramar) costs 80 pesos (about $7 US) round trip for anyone over 4 feet tall, 40 pesos for the shorties. Sit up top for great views. You can find more information on how to get to Isla Mujeres on the web, closer to your arrival date.

How Kid-Friendly is Isla Mujeres?

Isla Mujeres is one of those rare paradises that is relatively easy to access but relatively undiscovered making it a perfect place for a getaway with the family.
