6 Great Money Saving Apps for Travel

best apps for saving money on travel Travel apps are pretty much now an essential aspect of any trip now with smartphones bringing a whole new level to travel. With so many to choose from, the folks at Beat the Brochure offer their favorite money-saving travel apps:

  1. Oanda Currency ConverterOr any currency converter actually but this one is good and has an app for all smartphones, not just fruit-related ones. Using the daily filtered rates you can gage what is or isn’t a good rate during your stay whilst trying to exchange money.
  2. Big Tipper - Not sure what to tip so you just give a note without thinking about it? Big tipper will help you work out how much to tip so you can have some extra cash for another cocktail. Free on Android, small charge for iphone.
  3. Postman- Love this app! Take a picture on your phone, write a message to your friends/family and send in an email or post to Facebook or Twitter. Never pay for for stamps again or hang around sweating in a queue for the post office. Free on Android, small charge for iphone.
  4. Kayak- Cheap flight comparison. Granted, only really useful for those who don’t yet have flights booked but still an easy way to find the cheapest flight when you need one.
  5. Priceline Hotel Negotiator - Roadtripping in the US and need a motel? Or arrived at your hotel to find yourself a victim of ‘not what the brochure looked like’? Well, Priceline Hotel Negotiator helps ensure you never pay full price for a hotel again. Type in your location, requirements and the price you wish to pay and the app allows you to bid for your hotel.
  6. Skype - The obvious one and also dependent on your mobile network but rather than pay for wifi in your hotel on your netbook or even using your mobile, use the Skype app from your phone to brag to those at home about your holiday.

So, although waving your smartphone around can be potentially quite troublesome, travel apps can be useful and take the stress out of certain situations during your holiday as well as save you money. If you have tried out any of these travel apps we would like to know how you got on as well as any other apps you may have found useful that saved you money so that we can share it with our Beat the Brochure Community.
