Kids Tagging Along? 9 Ways to Still Be Romantic on V-Day

Kids Tagging Along? 9 Ways to Still Be Romantic on V-Day

vdaypjsSo I realize that while many of us fantasize about being in a sexy, exotic location, sipping Dom and eating caviar with our mate, (and I may be partially responsible for that fantasy),the reality is that most of us will be spending Valentine’s Day at home with the kids, or at best, on a weekend getaway (is it still called a getaway if the kids are coming too?).

If it does end up being a family weekend, here are 9 ways to ensure some romancing opportunities for the two of you (or at least a quickie):

1. Travel with another family so that you can babysit one night and they can babysit the next

2. Plan an “afternoon-in” while the kids nap. No errands, no gadgets, just good ol’ daytime lovin’

3. Involve the kids: Explain the meaning of Valentine’s day and get them involved in making a card or a cake (or better still, delegate it to them if they are old enough and sneak off for point number 2).

4. Plan a special “midnight surprise” for your mate, well after the gang has gone to bed

5. Leave little messages of love and lust all over the place for your lover to find and decode. In the kitchen cabinet, attached to the remote control, in his/her shoes. Make sure to use euphemisms or code if your kids can read!

6. Take the day off from planning any activities – go to the park, beach, anywhere the kids can run around and you can just relax without stressing too much. Pack a picnic lunch even, with some truffles and champagne to make it extra special. Make it a day to love everybody!

7. To make it feel like a special day, give each other a break from dreaded chores. Eat out and skip cooking, let the kids watch a little extra TV while you enjoy some quality time cuddling on the couch, postpone doing the laundry.

8. If you can’t get out to buy each other gifts, go online shopping together! It’s delayed gratification but still lots of fun when the goodies arrive!

9. if you’ve tried to book a babysitter and been shot down, you have already felt the mania that is V-day celebrations. Skip the crowds, eat in on the 14th and go out the next night. You may not tap into V-day specials at restaurants but sitters and flowers will be cheaper.

Happy Valentine’s Day all!

From the Momaboard team!

Well, me, anyway.
