About Austin :

Austin is the capital of the state of Texas, but more importantly, it is the live music capital of the US. With its city motto “Keep Austin Weird” which keeps things light and quirky as well as its state parks and natural beauty, Austin is a top US destination for tourists. Not all the live music spots are kid-friendly but our Mombassador can tell you which ones are.

Tell us about living in Austin:

Austin’s city slogan is ‘Keep Austin Weird’ and it is just plain fun to live in a city so proudly weird! You never know what you’ll see from crazy cars and wild colored hair to amazing live music and the very best barbecue in Texas.  Texans are very friendly and happy to share their state with visitors so come on down to say, “Howdy, y’all’!

What’s one cultural quirk?

Austin’s official city motto is “Keep Austin Weird”, and you’ll enjoy finding examples of the weirdness.

Why is traveling important for a family?

Traveling is important for families because it is a time for creating shared experiences and memories.

What’s the hardest thing about traveling with kids?

For us, the hardest  part about traveling with the kids is food – we have allergies in our family!

What’s your favorite family travel destination?

This is the toughest question ever! It is a tie between Rome and Istanbul. Both are vibrant cities with warm people and amazing histories. We’d love to spend more time in both!

What’s on your travel wish list?

My travel wish list includes every single place I haven’t been with a trip to Machu Picchu at the top.

What’s the one thing you do that makes traveling with kids easier?

Researching and creating kid friendly guide books with activities is the number one item on my to-do list that makes traveling with the kids easier and more fun.

Give us a song from your road trip playlist:

We start each and every trip with our family theme song which is Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again”.
